Curiosity Rover

Curiosity Rover-  Another great Invention of Man Kind.


Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) is a robotic space probe mission to Mars launched by NASA which successfully launched Curiosity Rover from Cape Canaveral on November 26, 2011 and Succesfully landed  on Mars on August 6, 2012 .

About Curiosity:
It's a robotic which carries a radioisotope-powered mobile scientific laboratory. It is the fourth NASA unmanned surface rover sent to Mars since 1996.

Goals of the Mission:
  1. To find out whether Mars could have ever supported life.
  2. Investigation of the role of water and its planetary habitability
  3. Investigate Mars Climate & Geology.
  • Curiosity rover has a mass of 899 kg (1,980 lb) including 80 kg (180 lb) of scientific instruments.
  • Curiosity is powered by a radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG).
  • Heat Rejection System,  It also has the ability to cool components if necessary
  • Computers-  two identical on-board rover computers, called "Rover Compute Element" 
  • Mast Camera -  cameras can take true-color images at 1600×1200 pixels and up to 10 frames per second hardware-compressed, high-definition video at 720p
  • Chemistry & Camera Complex - It's a remote sensing instruments and also it includes other many features like Navigation cameras,Hazard avoidance cameras etc..

President Obama phoned the team to congratulate them on the successful landing of Curiosity. "It's inspiring to all of us. Photographs that are coming back are going to be remarkable and amazing," President Obama said.
